13th January 2019
We welcome you all to our services today, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time.
Phil, our minister, is leading our worship this morning and Margaret & Chris will lead our Iona worship this evening at 6pm. We pray for us all a time of rich blessing, but also of challenge, as they lead us
Fairtrade tea and coffee will be served after this morning’s service; please take this opportunity to enjoy some light refreshments in the company of friends. Home-made cards will also be on sale. Take time to look at the range available, all proceeds benefit the church!
As always the Copper pot is on the table at the back of the church waiting for your coppers, which will eventually benefit local charities.

Church Family and Pastoral News
People to hold in your thoughts and prayers:
- Most will have heard that Alma Jones died peacefully on January 5th. Alma was a member of the ‘Old’ St David’s and worked tirelessly with the children at Church House, she was also a faithful member of Ladies Guild and shared her great love of painting with us. Many people have an ‘Alma’ painting on their wall! She will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Stan, Sandra, Michael, Rhodri and Bob at this sad time.
- Those with relatives who are very ill.
- We remember those in hospital or residential care.
- All who are coping with debilitating illnesses
- Members of our fellowship who are leading worship elsewhere.
The funeral of our much-loved friend, Alma Jones, will take place on Friday 18th January. A family service at Glyntaff Crematorium will be held at 11:15am and all are then invited to the thanksgiving service in the church at 12 noon.
Any volunteers to welcome, make tea/coffee etc would be warmly received. Please speak with Lynda or Marcia.
This Week and in the future
TODAY between 4-6pm. Phil will be leading the annual ‘Light for our Loss’ memorial time at Castle Square URC. All are welcome to attend and if any would like the names of deceased family read out during the service at 5pm, please let Phil know beforehand.
We had an excellent afternoon last week in Ladies Guild hearing about Phil’s time in New Zealand; this week will be a ‘Surprise’ as Marilyn will entertain us as only Marilyn can!! We will meet in the Victoria room at 2pm.
NEXT SUNDAY (20th) our 17th Anniversary Service and the Ordination of Elders which will be followed by our Anniversary Lunch, 1.30pm at the Rhondda Suite, Heritage Park Hotel. It’s not too late to join us, final numbers are needed by Friday! Names to Marcia please!
Don’t forget to take a ‘shopping list’ form the table to help you choose an item to add to your weekly shop. Just one extra item per household a week will make a big difference to the stock. Monetary donations are also welcome.
The final total for our Christmas Appeal is £1329. It will be split, as requested by donors as follows – Save the Children Yemen Appeal – £927, Rowan Tree Cancer Care – £402, plus £115 raised by gift aid. Thanks to all who contributed.
The Church Directory will be available next week!!
As requested, all or part of some people’s details have been omitted! Please be assured that no one has been forgotten and ALL have an allocated Elder and will be cared for!
Greetings Cards! Colleen is taking a well-earned break from making cards, but there are plenty in stock which will be available on Sundays as usual. Any orders received during this time will be completed and available on 17th February.
